Wolfgang is going to the Star Fest Nationals!
Earlier this year, our Upper School theatre students attended the StarFest regionals, hosted by Dalhousie University, for a day of workshops with industry professionals.
Wolfgang competed in the Contrasting Monologues category, and has qualified for nationals at a selection of host cities across Canada! Congratulations Wolfgang, we are so proud of you!
You are invited to our first Upper School Theatre Winter Showcase
On Wednesday, January 22nd, we will be presenting a series of short plays written, produced, and performed by our students in grades 6 to 12. There will be performances of three plays crafted by separate Middle School theatre troupes, and one by our High School Drama and Theatre Tech classes.
Join us from 3:30 to 4:30 pm in the gym and celebrate the work that our theatre programs have been working on throughout the first half of their year as we launch into our end-of-year projects: the annual Shakespeare production for Middle School, and our next original film production for High School!
We would like to use this event as a fundraiser to purchase a Sigma 10-18mm f/2.8 (C) DC DN Lens for our upcoming film, which will be announced at the Showcase! Please consider making any donation small or large toward this project. Thank you for your continued support of our Theatre Program!
Hydrostone Academy
Thanks to everyone for the outpouring of support on our recent announcement of the school’s name change!
Thanks also go out to the many who volunteered to film, produce, and appear in video testimonials for the school. Your support has been amazing!
Canadian Youth Climate Action Award
The Youth Climate Action grant has been supporting a large- scale, research-based project integrated into our Science 8, Science 9, Science Fair, and High School Biology curriculums. We look forward to sharing their discoveries with the community and raising awareness of algae’s potential in the fight against climate change!
Pre Primary hands-on learning fun
The Pre Primary Sky Room students have been learning how to safely use a hammer, a saw, a manual drill,
and block sander to build their boats. Max, who was the first to finish, is proudly displaying his boat. Way to go Max!
Our Pre Primaries baked bread last week. In the upcoming weeks, they will be baking biscuits, and cooking dumplings for Chinese New Year on the 29th!
Mark your calendar- Parent/Student/Teacher meetings for grades 6-12
The Upper School Parent/Student/Teacher meetings will be held Friday, January 31. There will be no school for grades 6 to 12, but Elementary students will have a regular day of school. Please remember that Upper School meetings require the involvement of the students.
The meetings will be in person at the school in the morning, and on-line in the evening. A full schedule with a link to the sign-up page will go out at the end of next week.
Bundle Up for Chilly Days
Ms.Madison,ourgrade1/2 teacher, would like to have some extra children’s outerwear on hand in case students forget theirs, or get wet during the day. Any contributions of snow pants, hats, mittens, etc. that your child has grown out of would be much appreciated by children who have forgotten theirs, or who have gotten soggy!
Mindfulness is the art…
Mindfulness is the art of exploring attention through our senses, minds and feelings. Practicing mindfulness in the classroom can help students calm themselves, focus, and engage in learning and positive social interactions.
Each week, Mr. McLellan visits classes in grades 4 through 12 for a session of Mindfulness. Pictured to the right, students in the grade 4/5 class are attuning their focus on the sense of touch.
